New legislation to support the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan

The Queensland Government is seeking your feedback on draft legislation to deliver the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

The Plan lays out a bold vision for Queensland’s energy future and sets ambitious renewable energy targets of 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030, 70 per cent by 2032 and 80 per cent by 2035.

The draft Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Bill will help make the plan a reality.

We value your engagement with the consultation process and it is your feedback that will help shape and inform the final Bill.

Have your say and help Queensland chart the course to our renewables energy future.

Watch a short video outlining the key elements in the Bill.

Proposed legislative changes

The draft Bill can be divided into three themes – commitments, frameworks, and governance.

Commitments

The Bill enshrines key commitments from the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan in legislation to provide Queenslanders with certainty and confidence through the energy transformation. This includes:

  • Queensland’s three renewable energy targets
  • ongoing public ownership of energy assets
  • the Job Security Guarantee and Fund.

Frameworks

The Bill includes the frameworks required to build the Queensland SuperGrid and deliver necessary infrastructure and investment. This includes a framework for priority transmission investment and renewable energy zones.

Governance

The Bill establishes governance and advice functions to support a smooth, coordinated energy transformation that is based on expert advice and delivers for industry and workers affected by the transition.
